Where: Starting at the NE end of Wallace Park near NW 25th Ave and NW Raleigh St. 

Please assemble at 4:30, and we will aim to press play and begin walking the route at about 4:45.
 
What: Composer Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night is an original composition written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a procession in which the line between participant/audience/performer blurs.... and a moment of beauty, surprise, and resonance is shared as we walk. 

Each participant prepares with one of four tracks of music in the form of a cassette, CD, or Mp3.
Together all four tracks comprise the music of Unsilent Night. 

***Participants carry boomboxes or portable speakers, to play and amplify the music. *** 
Please prepare *in advance* by figuring out how you will play and amplify your part of the music, and downloading the player or tracks or burning a CD as needed:

We plan on walking through NW Portland. The starting location will be Wallace Park. Meet inside the park near NW 25th and NW Raleigh – just past the dog run. 

The event will take about an hour, including gathering time, and walking to the end point. This will be rain or shine, so please come prepared for being outside in weather, whatever it may be. In the interest of everyone’s safety, we will aim to stay on sidewalks, and follow crosswalks and stop lights. 

The start is near several bus lines and the street car, with neighborhood street parking. Finish will be near the street car line (if you need to return to the start).
 
Accessibility: Route is a little over a mile, on paved walks, with some variations of old sidewalks, mostly curb cuts along the route. Mostly flat. We will try to stay together as a group, and set a steady but not too fast pace. 

Please figure out how you'll amplify this piece (Bluetooth speakers? Boombox?), and go to unsilentnight.com/participate.html to download the music parts and/or the player app. We suggest downloading everything in advance- as there is unlikely to be reliable internet access along the route for live streaming. 

We will bring a few extra sets of CDs if you are able to bring a CD player boombox, but do not have the ability to download the tracks and make your own CD. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide audio tapes this year.
